EWE GETTING VERY SLEEPY

A friend and I headed out to photograph some local buffalo but instead I was  taken by the mesmerizing stare of this ewe that was keeping the buffalo company. I used a Sennelier sanded surface with Unison pastels to create the thick texture of fleece for this painting. It was such a pleasure to work with all of the colors in this piece and to recreate the nature of the fleece with all of its curls, juxtaposed against the straight fur lining the sheep's eyes, nose and ears.

This painting was selected in the Pastel Journal Pastel 100 international competition as being among the Best Art of 2006 and can be viewed in the April 2007 issue of the magazine.
