The Trumpeter Swans
gather in the fields of Skagit Valley (Washington) every
year and every year I dash out with my camera hoping to
see them. This year seemed magical because I arrived just
as the sun was setting and the swans were feeding in the
potato fields. It was in January so it was crispy-cold but
there was still the warmth of color from the sun as it was
gliding over the swans’ bodies and along their graceful
necks.
This piece was selected
as a finalist in the Wildlife/Animal portion of the Pastel
100 Competition and appears in the April 2010 issue
of The Pastel Journal. My thanks to The
Pastel Journal for including my work alongside some
great art!
It
is humbling to have my piece be one of only twenty (in
the animal category) selected in an international
competition of over 4,000 entries. |
