ABOUT THIS PAINTING

This is what I consider a perfect view of Camano Island from the deck of my studio. It is my favorite time of day when the sun shows up over my shoulder and shines her light along the opposing shoreline, reflecting gold on the windows of our neighbors on the mainland.

There is so much variety in the color of the sky in the Pacific Northwest that I could paint the same sky every day for a year and not tire of it. Because we have a lot of overcast days moisture that is caught in the atmosphere acts like little prisms and intensifies the colors all around us. Our local colors are very naturally saturated on those beautiful cloudy days. When we (finally) do see the sun it seems even more brilliant because of the colors it has to reflect upon.
